His Eminence Prof. Dr. Madhu Krishan, eminent scientist, global humanitarian and Chairman & Chief Chancellor of the United Nations University for Global Peace, USA, graced the 80th Independence Day celebration at Manipal Hospital as the Chief Guest, adding international stature and significance to the prestigious occasion.

Prof. Dr. Krishan hoisted the Indian National Flag along with Dr. H. Sudarshan Ballal, Chairman of Manipal Hospitals, in the presence of Guests of Honour Dr. Sunil G. Kini, Dr. Manish Rai, Dr. Anand R. Shenoy and Dr. Pankaj Singhai, besides senior doctors, healthcare professionals and members of the hospital management.

The occasion was particularly significant for Prof. Dr. Krishan, whose association with Manipal Hospital goes beyond the ceremonial. In October 2015, he underwent a full liver transplant at the hospital and credits the institution's transplant team with giving him what he describes as a “second life.” He expressed heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Olith Selvan, Dr. Ravi Sidhachary and the entire liver transplant team for their exceptional care.

A Global Humanitarian at the Heart of the Celebration

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Dr. Krishan spoke passionately on the theme of “Freedom with Responsibility”, calling upon India's youth to take a leading role in building a peaceful, progressive, sustainable and strong nation.

Recalling his family's connection with India's freedom struggle, he said his grandfather was a freedom fighter who was arrested by the British and imprisoned in the Cellular Jail, Andaman Islands.

Prof. Dr. Krishan emphasised that India's freedom carries with it a responsibility towards peace, harmony, humanity and nation-building. He urged young Indians to contribute towards making India a Vishwa Guru and a stronger global force.

He also paid tribute to the countless unsung heroes of India's freedom struggle and acknowledged India's leadership journey from the era of the country's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, to the present leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu.

Manipal Hospital and Dr. Anand Shenoy Honoured

During the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Madhu Krishan honoured the Manipal Hospital management with the Best Nation Builder Leader Award 2026 – Health Sector of Holistic Wellness, which was received by Dr. H. Sudarshan Ballal.

Dr. Anand R. Shenoy, Senior Cardiologist, was presented with the prestigious Human Excellence Golden Award 2026 from the United Nations University for Global Peace, USA.

Speaking about the significance of his visit, Prof. Dr. Krishan said that returning to Manipal Hospital years after receiving a new lease of life was deeply emotional and meaningful. He recalled the dedication of the doctors, nurses, nutrition team and support staff who played a role in his recovery.

From Patient to Chief Guest

Prof. Dr. Krishan's journey at Manipal Hospital—from being a critically ill liver transplant patient in 2015 to returning years later as the Chief Guest at the Independence Day celebration—became one of the most moving moments of

the event.

He expressed special appreciation for the hospital's healthcare legacy and paid tribute to its founder Dr. T. M. A. Pai, whose vision laid the foundation for the Manipal Group and its contribution to medical education and healthcare.

He also acknowledged the continuing leadership and expansion of Manipal Hospitals under the succeeding generations of the Pai family, including Dr. Ranjan Pai.

International Recognition

Prof. Dr. Krishan also spoke about his recent participation in programmes commemorating the 250th anniversary of American Independence, including events associated with the United Nations and New York State Assembly.

He recalled receiving recognition and citations from American public representatives and civic leaders for his humanitarian, peace and education initiatives. He also highlighted the U.S. President's Lifetime Achievement Award, which he received in recognition of his humanitarian contributions.

A Celebration of Service and Humanity

Prof. Dr. Krishan's wife Mrs. P. M. Krishan and daughter Ms. Angel Payal Krishan also graced the occasion.

The hospital's male and female security personnel presented Prof. Dr. Krishan with a ceremonial guard of honour. The nursing team presented an Indian classical dance and a one-act play conveying the message of freedom with responsibility.

The celebration also witnessed the flagging off of several high-tech ambulances by Prof. Dr. Madhu Krishan and Dr. H. Sudarshan Ballal.

For Prof. Dr. Madhu Krishan, the occasion was more than an Independence Day celebration. A series of high-profile civic ceremonies across New York State recognized His Eminence Prof. Sir. Dr. Madhu Krishan, an eminent scientist, humanitarian, educator, and global peace advocate, for his lifelong contributions to humanitarian service, education, scientific advancement, international cooperation, and peace-building.

The recognition began with the New York State Assembly, where Assemblyman His Excellency Er. Angelo Santabarbara presented His Eminence with a Citation of Honour. The award acknowledged his decades of leadership in promoting global peace, humanitarian initiatives, environmental stewardship, education, and international collaboration.

The ceremony was attended by distinguished dignitaries, including H.E. Dr. Philip Fields, Secretary of the New York State Assembly – Ways and Means Committee; H.E Dr. John Mootooveren, Councilman of the City of Schenectady; diplomats, senior government officials, civic leaders, and invited international guests.

During the official visit, the Police Commissioner of Schenectady presented His Eminence Prof. Sir. Dr. Madhu Krishan with the Prestigious Medal of Honour in recognition of his outstanding humanitarian leadership and lifelong service to humanity. The Schenectady Police Department also accorded him a Guard of Honour and provided an official security detail throughout his engagements in the city.

Further recognizing his global humanitarian impact, His Excellency Mr. Gary R McCarthy The Hon,ble Mayor of the City of Schenectady issued an Official Proclamation honouring His Eminence for his enduring commitment to peace-building, education, humanitarian service, environmental sustainability, disaster management, and global human rights advocacy.

In one of the most significant moments of the visit, Hon’ble Mayor His Excellency Mr. Gary R. McCarthy officially proclaimed 1 July 2026 as historical “The Day of His Eminence Prof. Sir. Dr. Madhu Krishan” in the City of Schenectady, New York. The proclamation formally recognizes his extraordinary international contributions and establishes the date as a historic civic observance honouring his legacy of humanitarian service, global peace, education, scientific excellence, and international friendship.

The Global family of The American University USA & The United Nations University For Global Peace USA & Groups Of Peace Universities in 120 Countries  recently experienced a moment that none of us will ever forget.

Our Chairman, Dr. Madhu Krishan, during his Global Peace Mission Journey From USA to Africa , South Asia,  had just completed an important humanitarian mission across Africa, sharing a message of peace, education, and global unity. Dr. Krishan also awarded prestigious Awards to the Hon'ble Minister of Commerce ,Industry Cooperative as well to the Hon'ble Minister of Land ,Housing & Urban Development in Uganda ( For Detail News Click here  & also Click here  . Before returning to the Headquarters in the United States, he made a brief stop in India for International Social Justice event in  South India for three days event.

But in the early hours of 25 February 2026, at around 1:30 AM, everything suddenly changed.

Dr. Krishan suffered a massive heart attack and was immediately rushed to Manipal Hospital.

Inside the Cardiac Cath Lab, the situation quickly turned critical. A Code Blue was declared three times.

For nearly 20 intense minutes, doctors fought to bring him back. CPR was administered, life-support systems were activated, and the medical team  headed by Dr. Ananad Shenoy battled relentlessly against time. The efforts of all the team are highly appreciated. He was in the hospital for more than two weeks.

In that moment… the world prayed. Our thanks with gratitude to  Our Senior most International Governor & Vice Chancellor H.E. Prof. Dr. Sir. Lakshman Madhurasinghe , His Wife Mrs. Charmaine Madhurasinghe, our Ambassadors H.E. Bishop Dr. Jerome Fernando, Our Senior Governors & Senate members from USS H.E. Dr. Melody Rudd , H.E. Bishop Dr. Sonny Rudd , Apostle Tigi George , H.E. Amb. Dr. Carol & her team Rev. Nigel  H.E. Pastor Ram Babu & his team & many others from all Continents.

By what can only be described as God’s grace, supported by the prayers of thousands and the extraordinary efforts of the doctors and nurses, a miracle happened.

Dr. Madhu Krishan came back after brady cardiac arrest in the Cath Lab.

Dr. Anand R Shenoy's smiling face with comforting & encouraging words during his daily visit to Dr. Krishan everyday sharp between 6.30 AM to 6.45 AM motivated him & encouraged his recovering  journey  . Our head quarter has decided to honour Dr. Anand R Shenoy with a very Prestigious Award from our  United Nations University USA on a suitable Event in USA .

Today, he is under cardio physiotherapy, recovering well, walking again, and steadily regaining his strength.

What moved everyone around him most were his very first words after recovery: “The Peace Mission must continue. We still have work to do for peace and humanity in all 230 Countries, to reach to all unreach with the Gospel of Peace .”

This moment reminds us that true leaders are not defined by power or position, but by purpose, courage, and faith.

A New Alma-Ata for Integrative Health- Colombo Declaration 

In a powerful echo of the landmark 1978 Alma-Ata Declaration, global leaders in medicine, science, and policy gathered in Sri Lanka this week for the Medicina World Congress at the historic Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH).

The three-day summit attended by our chairman His Eminence Prof. Dr.Sir  Madhu Krishan concluded with the unanimous adoption of the Colombo Declaration on Integrative Health for All—a visionary roadmap to fully integrate traditional, complementary, and integrative medicine (TCIM) into mainstream healthcare systems worldwide.

Led by our Senior Governor AUGP, Prof. Dr. Sir Lakshman Madurasinghe, Chairman of Medicina Alternativa—BOI, the declaration transforms the World Health Organization’s Traditional Medicine Strategy into concrete, actionable commitments, with Sri Lanka as the launch pad for global change.

Over 500 doctors, scientists, researchers, policymakers, and members of distinguished orders (including the Knights of the EMH Order and Knights of St John of Jerusalem) came together to champion a holistic future. Sessions explored ancient Sri Lankan Ayurvedic wisdom alongside modern fields like neuro-economics and biopsychology, celebrating Medicina Alternativa’s 63-year legacy of training more than 150,000 practitioners across 100 countries.

‘“This is our generation’s Alma-Ata moment,” Prof. Madurasinghe proclaimed at the signing ceremony. “Colombo 2025 ignites Integrative Health for All—blending the best of traditional knowledge with cutting-edge science to deliver equitable, whole-person care to every community and nation.

”The Colombo Declaration rests on three core pillars:

• Universal Access: Embedding evidence-based integrative therapies into primary healthcare for physical, mental, and social well-being.
• Innovation & Research: Establishing Sri Lanka as a global hub for rigorous TCIM studies, including explorations of ancient medical legacies.
• Sustainability & Training: Building culturally sensitive, gender-responsive workforces and harnessing digital tools for remote integrative care.

Filled with inspiring keynotes, hands-on workshops, and vibrant cultural performances blending Sinhala healing traditions with modern wellness, the congress ended on a wave of optimism. Delegates left energized, ready to turn the Colombo Declaration from words into worldwide reality.

A new era of truly integrative health has begun—and it started in Colombo.  We support this declaration and urge all countries to embrace these terms so more people will live in good health and well being.
